Flea

Hi Ladies,

it's the time of the year where we look for dust bunnies and dig into the depth of our closets and realized, OH NO WHY DO I HAVE SO MANY CLOTHES !@£$%^ FMLX1000.

For me, i have this really terrible tendency of buying things that i really love in at least 2 colours. and there are a lot of things that i really love.

as an extreme cheapo, i don't like to just give them away. some are not cheap and in very good condition and plus my mum would yell at me again for wasting money buying things that i do not wear.  (actually i do wear them, i just have too many things to wear and i only have a body.)

One very good solution is: GO TO FLEAS!

I have been to the one at Scape level 4. The rental fee is horrid expensive with only one table and 2 chairs. But it is a place with crowds and i did clear a big chunk of loots (but unfortunately i also came back with some new loots.).

However it is really tedious to go all the way there and cabbing just incur additional cost.

And so, a google search lead me to: Neighbourhood Fleas!

there are 2 flea that i went to a couple of times.

Taman Jurong Block 117, opposite Taman Jurong CC.
Rental is $5, open on weekends. No need to reserve, there will be a lady who come down around 9+am to collect the fees from you. No tables and chairs but sheltered.

West Coast GRC flea, Blk 501. Inside West Coast Market.
Rental is $10 for residents of WCGRC and $20 for non residents. Opens 9am to 2pm but be there early to chop good places as there are no shelter. Registration is done on the spot.

I used to have 2 luggages and 2 huge ass china-man bag. After going to the fleas I am now left with one big plastic bag, which i gave them away.

if you have any good and cheap flea to recommend, do let me know!

My Waxing Experiences

Hello! I believe there are a lot of females out there who are very interested in waxing but are skeptical. Firstly due to the pain and secondly, the nudity involved. This post is about my experiences to the saalon/spa that i have been to, and my humble opinion of waxing. AND ALSO, TO JACK UP MORE VIEWS FOR MY BLOGSHOP. HAHAHAHAA!

1st: The pain. Truthfully, anyone who tells you that it is not painful is (partially) lying to you. During your first trip, it will DEFINITELY be hell. Especially if you have an intimate relationship with your shavers. HAHA. Depending on individual, the "lesseing" process starts during 2nd-4th trip. For me, During my 3rd trip the pain was significantly lesser, as the amount of hair got lesser as well.

2nd: Nudity. Honestly i do not know why its ok for many females to strip the top for massages but becomes shy when it comes to the bottom. Bear in mind that the therapists have seen MANY and will forget all about yours the second you walk out. If you think the amount you have is too much to be seen, grab and scissors and trim them shorter and all shall be fine. Also, even if the therapist do make a scathing remark like, "Wah you have alot hor?",  just know that they are actually cursing themselves internally for the harder job that is to come.

Experiences: I will post only the really good ones. Will do the not-so-good ones if responses is good. HAHA.

Spa Haven / 45 & 46 Amoy Street, Singapore 069871

i went there a REALLY long time ago, when i was 18 (I am an old woman now). paid full price cos there was no such thing as DealSG back then. muahaha. i think i paid around $45? someone recommended me there and it was good. therapist was very quick but now i find it odd that they didnt let me shower first even though there was one. and i should mention that the therapists are older compared to all others that i had visited. probably means they are more experienced LOL.

Since it was my 1st time there, i was actually really scared. probably because i was TOO scared, the process turned out not as painful as i thought. like 2x more than an ant's bite.

Brazilian Expertise / 181 Orchard Road, Orchard Central #08-06 Singapore 238826

it was a very very small place but pretty cosy. was late but the therapist patiently waited for us, thank God. have encountered places who don’t allow that. i paid like $19 due to a Gmarket promotion. damn worth it, they put some hair growth slowing lotion which is pretty effective! i forgot to ask whats the brand but i suspect its some in-house product.

No shower as well but the therapist did clean by using anti-septic. this was the first time i went after the above, which is 2 years later. after months of shaving, it was an excruciating experience. The therapist was nice and tried to calm me down, she counted 1,2,3 and piak. that was the MOST painful trauma i ever had. LOL. so ladies, quit that shaver cold turkey.

Meditrina Spa / 61 Tras Street Singapore 079000

by far the best place i have to been. the 1st one that allows me to bathe. bought this deal from outletSG for $18. but one different thing is that the “treatment room” is rather big and can accomodate a few in a go. just a draw a curtain in between the beds. all other places i have been to are done in a private small individual room. because its big i was sweating bullets.

i think they uses strips instead of the hard wax. it was not so warm but i think it doesnt stick as well as the hard wax. spend 45 mins in there cos the therapist had to pluck out the ingrowth. OUCH. in fact the plucking was more painful than the waxing. but the therapist was very good and very thorough so no complaints. and she put the growth slowing lotion which was a bonus because it was not stated in the deal. will definitely go back again if there is promo LOL. but bear in mind the place is quite hard to find.

Fabulous Tan / 8 Grange Road Cineleisure Orchard #05-03

2nd place that offers showering! bonus point! whole process was very speedy cos the therapist did not talk much. some therapist would talk to you to distract you from the pain, but for me its ok since its not that painful anymore. the wax was super warm thou, even after she adjusted the temp it was still freaking hot. but it did mask the pain. Heat or Pain, you choose. LOL. im not very sure if the hotter it is, the better it sticks. althou my session was speedy, it could be due to the fact that the amount of hair was much lesser. but it was a thorough job which is the main point.

staffs are friendly cos the appointment was changed twice due to Aunty M’s visit and they didnt kick up a fuss. bought this deal at $19 but couldnt remember which deal site lol.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment! Im not an expert but i can share my experience. =D

My Waxing Experience - The Negative

As promised (a long time ago), I'm back to update about my not-so-good expereinces with some of the beauty salons here.

Being an all-round cheapo, I usually (well, actually, always) get my waxing sessions from deals site. Less than $20 and some comes with impeccable services that truly exceeds my expectation, pretty worth it, don't you think? If they suck, you don't have to ever see the place again. If they are good, you scored a great deal!

Well, since all of us know that waxing is a painful business. A good therapist would try to sooth your fears and minimize the pain. However, beside the process, some pre and post procedures are actually important too!

Hygiene - Some places offer showers before the start of the session. Some don't, but they use disinfect lotion to clean the bikini area, which is still good. Of course, there are places who don't bother with that. I would use a wet facial tissue to clean myself prior to each session anyway, because I wouldn't know what to expect.

Post-session care - Some deals include whitening or hydrating mask after waxing. Some don't, but they put body lotion instead. Some deals skip these all together as it is stated that they provide only waxing service. Regardless, it is still good to bring along a small bottle of body lotion with you. I have a small bottle of Nivea hand cream with me at all times, so I'd use that. At home for the 1st-3rd day, I use Nature Republic Aloe Vera Gel, which i keep in the refrigerator, after bath. It is cooling and reduce the reddish "glow" after wax. As told by some therapists, it is VERY important to keep your V hydrated after each wax. Surely, we don't want a clean and bush-free but dry and sodden V, do we?

Now to the negative part. Many of my friends wanted to go for it, but is really afraid of the pain. Imagine, steamy hot wax plucked off a handful of thick, coarse hair at the most sensitive part of your body. It takes courage, and a good therapist to make the experience enjoyable. Or at least bearable. So, as a generally nice and caring member of our female specie, I will share some places that I would not recommend from my past experience.

UBeau
no.1 liang seah street
liang seah place

Place is located just behind Bugis Junction, where you find all the good food and steamboat shop run by fellow PRC.

It is a small and rather dark place. Half of the place was dedicated to nail services (at least, there was how it is the last time i was there). I went with my friend on the last day of the deal duration and there was a stream of fellow brave ladies waiting for their turn. They only have one therapist on that day to do it, and it was CNY peak period.

It was a VERY fast session. No prior cleaning. Not much conversation. My friend who went in first said that it was extremely painful as the therapist pluck without saying much. Usually, they would tell you, "ok, this part is more sensitive and will just be a little more painful."But the therapist on that day merely ask, "is this your first time?" and proceed on mercilessly without saying anything.

Best part, it was not clean. She did not ensure that the whole area was hair-free. When my friend asked her about it, she said it was not part of the deal. -__-?? Your people put "Brazillian Wax" for the deal and tell us that it is not part of the deal to do a full hair removal? Great.

My Beauty Research
Rochor Centre #02-508, 1 Rochor Road(S)180001

Actually, i don't know whee to place this. Brave friend and I bought a 5 session deal for only $60. Very good deal i think.

The place was quite nice and brimming with awards and certificates. And also PRC beauticians. No discrimination intended. Just that there are plenty of times i couldn't understand what they were saying.

The therapist is very thorough and it is very clean. It may be because i already have a smaller bush and easier to remove. BUT one thing i really don't like is their constant hard-selling. Also, brave friend who had a bigger bush was persuaded to upgrade her deal for a "thorough removal" and some after care stuffs. I don't get it. Isn't brazilian waxing supposed to be "all off"? Pardon me for my ignorance.

There! i hope this post helps some ladies in some ways. basically once you have gone for it, the subsequent visits will really be alright. No fear ladies!
