As promised (a long time ago), I'm back to update about my not-so-good expereinces with some of the beauty salons here.
Being an all-round cheapo, I usually (well, actually, always) get my waxing sessions from deals site. Less than $20 and some comes with impeccable services that truly exceeds my expectation, pretty worth it, don't you think? If they suck, you don't have to ever see the place again. If they are good, you scored a great deal!
Well, since all of us know that waxing is a painful business. A good therapist would try to sooth your fears and minimize the pain. However, beside the process, some pre and post procedures are actually important too!
Hygiene - Some places offer showers before the start of the session. Some don't, but they use disinfect lotion to clean the bikini area, which is still good. Of course, there are places who don't bother with that. I would use a wet facial tissue to clean myself prior to each session anyway, because I wouldn't know what to expect.
Post-session care - Some deals include whitening or hydrating mask after waxing. Some don't, but they put body lotion instead. Some deals skip these all together as it is stated that they provide only waxing service. Regardless, it is still good to bring along a small bottle of body lotion with you. I have a small bottle of Nivea hand cream with me at all times, so I'd use that. At home for the 1st-3rd day, I use Nature Republic Aloe Vera Gel, which i keep in the refrigerator, after bath. It is cooling and reduce the reddish "glow" after wax. As told by some therapists, it is VERY important to keep your V hydrated after each wax. Surely, we don't want a clean and bush-free but dry and sodden V, do we?
Now to the negative part. Many of my friends wanted to go for it, but is really afraid of the pain. Imagine, steamy hot wax plucked off a handful of thick, coarse hair at the most sensitive part of your body. It takes courage, and a good therapist to make the experience enjoyable. Or at least bearable. So, as a generally nice and caring member of our female specie, I will share some places that I would not recommend from my past experience.

liang seah place
Place is located just behind Bugis Junction, where you find all the good food and steamboat shop run by fellow PRC.
It is a small and rather dark place. Half of the place was dedicated to nail services (at least, there was how it is the last time i was there). I went with my friend on the last day of the deal duration and there was a stream of fellow brave ladies waiting for their turn. They only have one therapist on that day to do it, and it was CNY peak period.
It was a VERY fast session. No prior cleaning. Not much conversation. My friend who went in first said that it was extremely painful as the therapist pluck without saying much. Usually, they would tell you, "ok, this part is more sensitive and will just be a little more painful."But the therapist on that day merely ask, "is this your first time?" and proceed on mercilessly without saying anything.
Best part, it was not clean. She did not ensure that the whole area was hair-free. When my friend asked her about it, she said it was not part of the deal. -__-?? Your people put "Brazillian Wax" for the deal and tell us that it is not part of the deal to do a full hair removal? Great.

Actually, i don't know whee to place this. Brave friend and I bought a 5 session deal for only $60. Very good deal i think.
The place was quite nice and brimming with awards and certificates. And also PRC beauticians. No discrimination intended. Just that there are plenty of times i couldn't understand what they were saying.
The therapist is very thorough and it is very clean. It may be because i already have a smaller bush and easier to remove. BUT one thing i really don't like is their constant hard-selling. Also, brave friend who had a bigger bush was persuaded to upgrade her deal for a "thorough removal" and some after care stuffs. I don't get it. Isn't brazilian waxing supposed to be "all off"? Pardon me for my ignorance.
There! i hope this post helps some ladies in some ways. basically once you have gone for it, the subsequent visits will really be alright. No fear ladies!
